Leadership Legacy Experience

 Applications are OPEN. Deadline is October 15th.

 

Note: Although Acceptances and Statements of Support can be saved and continued at a later date, only completed and submitted materials will be reviewed. When you are ready to submit your nomination material, you must click on the link to open the Kuali application. 

Please read ALL of the following information closely before proceeding.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES

NOMINATIONS OPEN: Monday, August 26th, 2024 at 9:00 AM
NOMINATION DEADLINE
: Tuesday, October 15th, 2024 at 12:00 PM (noon)
NOMINATION ACCEPTANCES: Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 at 12:00 PM (noon)
STATEMENTS OF SUPPORT: Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 at 12:00 PM (noon)

IMPORTANT SUBMISSION INFORMATION

1) Nominations must be accepted by the nominee for it to be eligible.
2) Nominations by faculty, staff, and graduate students are required.
3) Nominees will be notified, assigned a Nomination ID, and required to accept their nomination (NOMINATION ID REQUIRED)
4) Self-Nominees must submit at least one Statement of Support from a faculty/staff member/graduate student.

**Accepted students must be available for the Douglas Bernstein Leadership Legacy Banquet and the Leadership Legacy Retreat from 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24th until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25th.

REQUIRED INFORMATION FOR SELF-NOMINATIONS

1) Additional Nomination Information: name, email, phone number, major, credits completed
2) Reference Information: self-nominations require one statement of support from a reference (recommended: faculty/staff/graduate students).

 a) What does leadership mean to you personally? Can you share a leader who has significantly influenced you, and how they impacted your approach to leadership.

b) Describe a significant accomplishment that you achieved as a University of Connecticut student. How has this experience influenced your understanding of leadership?

c) Reflect on your contributions to a community you belong to. How have you demonstrated leadership in this context?

d) Describe a time you led an initiative addressing social justice issue(s) on campus or in the broader community. What challenges did you face, and what were the outcomes?

What is the eligibility criteria for the Leadership Legacy Program? 

Legacy is looking for undergraduate students who have demonstrated consistent and substantive contribution(s) to and leadership of the campus and its broader community and who show significant potential to lead beyond graduation. Additionally, candidates of this program should be established leaders on campus and beyond. Please note that students will have to be able to commit to, and be enrolled as full-time Storrs undergraduate students during the length of the program (January through December).

Are regional campus students eligible for Leadership Legacy?

Participants must be full-time students at the Storrs campus during the entire program.

Are students graduating in May 2024 eligible for Leadership Legacy?

Students who will be graduating during the length of this experience are not eligible.

I nominated a student and they are saying they need a Statement of Support. Do I need to submit a Statement of Support in addition to my nomination? 

No, you do not need to submit a Statement of Support as you will be answering the same questions. If a nominee would like to add a Statement of Support to their nomination, they can ask a different faculty, staff, graduate student, or undergraduate student to complete a Statement of Support. Be sure the nominee shares their nomination ID.

I would like to submit a Statement of Support. Can I just email it to someone?

No, we do not accept Statements of Support via email. Please submit your Statement of Support via the Nomination Form.

I am a student interested in nominating myself. Am I able to submit a self-nomination?

Yes, students can nominate themselves. Please note that all self-nominations require at least one Statement of Support from a Faculty/Staff member. A self-nomination will not be accepted unless a Statement of Support is submitted on the students' behalf.

I was nominated by more than one person. Do I have to accept each nomination? 

Students are often nominated by multiple individuals across campus. If you have been nominated by multiple people, you can choose which nomination you want to accept and our staff will turn the additional nomination(s) into a Statement of Support.

I was nominated and accepted by nomination. Then, I received an email that I was nominated by someone else. Do I have to accept the additional nominations? 

No, you do not have to accept the additional nominations. Our staff will turn the additional nominations into a Statement of Support.

I accepted my nomination but I received a reminder email about Statements of Support. Do I need to submit a Statement of Support? 

No, students who have been nominated by someone else are not required to add Statements of Support to their nomination materials. However, we encourage students to invite others to submit a Statement of Support if they would like to add additional narrative to their nomination. Be sure to provide your nomination ID if you are requesting a Statement of Support. Here is the link to submit a Statement of Support.

Do I need to ask someone to submit a Statement of Support on my behalf in addition to my nomination? 

No, you are not required to ask someone to submit a Statement of Support on your behalf. However, we encourage students to invite others to submit a Statement of Support if they would like to add additional narrative to their nomination. I asked someone to submit a Statement of Support but they included the wrong nomination ID. How can I fix this?

You can email studentleadership@uconn.edu to notify us of this error and we can correct it on the submission form.

I accepted my nomination but included the wrong nomination ID. How can I fix this?

How do I know if a nomination is complete with all required information and material?

Please refer to the submission and required information above to ensure that you have all the required information before proceeding with a nomination or statement of support submission. If you have been nominated, be sure to accept the nomination with the required information. If you nominated yourself, be sure to have a Statement of Support submitted on your behalf.
